Shamir Optical Industry Ltd. is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality progressive and monofocal lenses, as well as blanks for their manufacture.
Shamir is known worldwide for its innovative technologies and quality. Opticians and optical laboratories around the world highly appreciate the speed with which Shamir brings new designs and products to the market that meet modern market demands.
Shamir also develops and manufactures products for independent brands (often very well-known) around the world. Shamir company was founded in 1972 and was initially engaged in the production of bifocal lenses. Then she quickly refocused on the development of designs and the production of progressive lenses.
Shamir is now among the top ten manufacturers of progressive lenses in the world. Today Shamir operates two factories for the production of lenses and blanks in Israel and has 16 laboratories around the world with a total staff of about 2,100 people.
In July 2011, a merger took place, as a result of which Essilor became the owner of a 50% stake in Shamir Optical Industry.
Shamir's main technologies are: Eye-Point Technology III, Natural PostureTM, As-Worn QuadroTM and IntelliCorridorTM. Using these technologies, Shamir calculates optimal designs for lenses of any complexity, which, combined with a wide range of materials with different refractive indices, makes it possible to offer opticians and their clients a complete list of solutions: progressive, office, individual lenses. The new Metaform technology, which makes minus lenses up to 40% lighter and thinner than standard lenses and up to 18 times stronger than FDA requirements, as well as a new premium coating with up to 70% less glare than other premium coatings, make Shamir a clear leader in the global market.
